About the Author
I have worked in the field of epidemiology for chronic disease for 12+ years and have published more than 40 papers in this field. I am Senior Lecturer in the Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions for Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer) which is one of five new UKCRC Centres of Public Health Research Excellence.

Member of the steering committee of the European Diabetes Epidemiology Group.
Member of British Society for Rheumatology.


I am a professor in Health Services Research, based in the Centre for Health Information Research and Evaluation (CHIRAL) in the School of Medicine at Swansea University. I am currently Director of AWARD's Mid and West Wales section. My main research interests and expertise lie in the fields of Emergency Pre-hospital and Unscheduled Care, Clinical Audit and Effectiveness, and research support. I am chair of the 999 EMS Research forum and lead the Thematic Research network for emergency and UnScheduled Treatment (TRUST). The focus of my work is to plan, design and carry out evaluations of new models of service delivery. My work is strongly patient-focused and collaborative, and uses mixed methods to achieve study aims - ranging from randomised controlled trials to action research. In recent years, my research support work has taken me to new areas and I have recently been involved in diverse studies concerning; evaluation of policy related to Chronic Conditions Management; evaluation of the delivery of a bibliotherapy scheme in Wales; the provision of gastrointestinal services; and health-related community development.

I was awarded a personal chair in 2006. I am a sociologist who specialises in research which explores the experience of patients, service users and carers. I have a particular interest in the use of qualitative methods especially in methods designed to analyse talk and text.

Costly little book, but informative guide and easy read.

The book was sent in a timely manner; it took less than 7 days to arrive at my house. The book is overpriced, but far less costly on Amazon. I do not know why the book cost as much as it does because it's only 181 pages of "how to evaluate health study research".

The overall content of the book is good, nothing that you have not learned in epidemiology if you are a senior in a health science program. The book breaks down the basics of health evaluation studies such as t-tests, chi-squared tests, the 95 percent confidence interval, how to create a histogram, explains the measures of variation and correlation, the advantages and disadvantages of quantitative and qualitative research and overall the best methods to analyze the research. The text is an easy read; anyone can understand the calculations and will be able to successfully "evaluate case studies in a healthcare setting".

I disliked it because it contained a lot of claims that are not backed by evidence and either don't mention studies or arguments about topics the authors clearly favor. For example, the authors talk about blueberries and fish oil like they are the greatest discovery of the 21st Century. My overall impression of this textbook is that it's more pseudoscience and "nutrition fad" than actual evidence-based nutrition education. I felt like I was being lectured by authors who never bothered to read any of the actual studies and just cherry-picked ideas they liked and thought sounded good. This "textbook" didn't feel like it belonged in a college course for people trying to actually learn the facts about nutrition.

Haunted Destiny- Loved it!!!!

I picked up Kelly Abells book as I saw it on a forum and wanted to be able to give myself and my grandchildren something fun to read and yet have it believeable...I always read first for content and just thought how wonderful this story was and how creative the writer...
Destiny is a young girl who was suddenly touched by tragedy. In a car accident that claimed her mother, father and baby brother she is taken from her rather elite home and moves to a trailer with a grandmother she never knew.

She is thrown into turmoil of being new in town, and wanting to make friends and ends up enemies with the "rich and spoiled" Amy who bellieves she wants her boyfriend Jake.

The story is about destiny finding herself, learning to deal with who she is and the evil that surrounds Amy and her family...The supernatural theme was written well, all characters were believable and being from the area Ms Abell writes about...I felt "there"

My grandson has started reading the story...I think he and his friends will love it as much as I did...Cudos Ms Abell...a story for all generations...

Young Adult Paranormal without the cliche

Haunted Destiny is a young adult paranormal romance written by Kelly Abell. While I have never read Kelly's work previously I was familiar with her name in regards to her suspense, Sealed In Lies. After reading Haunted Destiny I was quite surprised to find that she had never written in this genre before.

After losing her parents to a car accident, Destiny goes to live with her Grandmother. She runs into many of the obstacles that teenagers would today, but Destiny has more to contend with that just that. She has special gifts that her Gram offers to help her better understand. As the book progresses more people are affected by evil and it is up to Destiny to save them from the forces that have taken over.

Haunted Destiny was an extremely well written book. From the beginning of this book there was constantly something intriguing me and forcing me to continue turning the pages. This is a book I not only would recommend to anyone who loves a great story, but I hope this isn't the last paranormal we see from Kelly Abell. It was a treat to read.

Spooky Awesomeness!

There are so many reasons why I loved this story! The storyline is a mixture of traditional hauntings with an eclectic twist. While the plot is not overly complicated it is very entertaining in a spine tingling way. The characters are eccentric & pull you in. And what a finale! A terrific young adult paranormal tale I will enjoy sharing with my kids!
